Howard Marks is Mr Nice posted on 16 August 2011
Howard Marks visits the Junction on 30th September to perform his now legendary one-man comedy show. Since 1997, when Marks performed his first live shows discussing his life as a marijuana smuggler and his views on drug use and legalisation, his work has received excellent reviews throughout the national press, and has led to sell-out performances across Britain and Europe covering an ever-widening range of topics. Marks certainly has a story to tell: hailing from a small Welsh mining village, he went on to work with the British Secret Service and has been connected with the Mafia, the IRA, MI6 and the CIA, and has been described as “the most sophisticated drugs baron of all time”. After being sentenced to 25 years at America’s toughest federal penitentiary he was released on parole in 1995 after serving just 7 years. Surely it is not possible to fit this kind of story into an evening at the theatre? Marks certainly gives it a good go and leaves his audience with a powerful and lasting impression of life as Mr. Nice.
