Vermeer’s Women: Secrets and Silence

Explore the intimacy and beauty of interior scenes by Johannes Vermeer and his 17th-century contemporaries in the only showing of this visually stunning exhibition. At its heart is Vermeer’s extraordinary painting The Lacemaker (c.1669- 70) – one of the Musée du Louvre’s most famous works - rarely seen outside Paris and now on loan to the UK for the first time. The painting will be joined by three key works by Vermeer representing the pinnacle of his mature career, and by other masterpieces of genre painting from the Dutch ‘Golden Age’ evoking the private realms inhabited almost exclusively by women who we glimpse engaged in domestic tasks, at their toilette or immersed in pleasurable pastimes such as music making, reading or writing letters. Featuring works from museums and private collections in the UK, Europe and the USA, many of which have never been on public display in Britain, this Cambridge showing will be the only chance to see these masterpieces brought together in one exhibition.

Pa Kua is a non-contact, non-competitive martial arts that encourage a wide range of young people that wants to practice martial arts but avoid to do so because the fear of injuries or the pressure to compete. We believe that the practice of a non-contact/non-competitive kind of martial arts give the students a deeply knowledge of himself as he is the only opponent to defeat. The regular profile of a Pa Kua Student is someone that looks after his limits and tries to improve achieving an increase of self-steam and the ideal goal to transfer this knowledge to his daily duties.
