    Shuttleworth Race Day at Shuttleworth, Old Warden Aerodrome, Nr Biggleswade, SG18 9EP

    Richard Ormonde Shuttleworth’s passion for racing, vintage cars, and aviation is at the very heart of The Shuttleworth Collection’s Race Day. As the end of season finale, activities on the day will include vintage aircraft flying displays and mock air races, ground show entertainment and static exhibits, visiting car and motorcycle clubs, and the Shuttleworth Sprint. A ‘classic’ sprint course along a grass runway, some of the world’s finest veteran and vintage race cars will be taking part before the fun of mock air races and vintage aircraft displays. Come in 1920’s fashions and get into the spirit of the between the wars era for fabulous end of season finale!

    Enjoy the Swiss Garden in Autumn with this informative walk, where our senior garden team will be delighted to share the garden’s story with you. This walk will cover seasonal plants, the garden’s architectural delights, the history of the garden and its recent restoration project, and future development plans, along with an opportunity to chat to the Head Gardener over lunch. Highlights include Autumn leaf colour including Acer, Robinia and Tulip trees, Autumn Crocus on the East lawn and autumn flowering bulbs in the Rock Garden. Suitable for ages 16+.

    Enjoy a wonderful poetry-writing workshop led by poet Phil Bowen (www.philbowen.co.uk) using the theme of gardens as inspiration. Poetry plays an important part in the Swiss Garden’s past, and there are examples of verse inscribed around the landscape, full of meaning and memory for those who placed it there almost 200 years ago. Write your own piece of poetry, inspired by the lovely surroundings of the garden and with guidance from Phil, himself a published poet and scriptwriter who understands perfectly the relationship between poetry and place.
