Queer Antiquities: a Museum Trail at Museum of Classical Archaeology

From Greek love to Roman invective, from imperial toyboys to post-antique titillation: we explore ancient same-sex sexualities and their reception in our atmospheric Cast Gallery. Pick up a trail from the front desk and find your way around the naked truth of sex in the ancient past. The Museum of Classical Archaeology is also open on Saturdays throughout February 10:00-13:00.

Making History at Museum of Classical Archaeology
13/02/18 to 13/04/18 - FreeExplore the interplay between past and present in this new exhibition by artist Clare Yarrington. Making History falls into three, inter-linked themes, namely the excavation, preservation and reconstruction of classical remains. Clare draws explicitly on her past experience as an archaeologist and archaeological illustrator to explore our relationship with the classical past. The exhibition features a wide variety of different artistic media, including ink drawings depicting excavations of Gortyn in Crete, collograph prints based on Pompeii and Herculaneum and collaged drawings directly inspired by the Museum of Classical Archaeology's collection.

Around 3,700 gardens open each year for the National Garden Scheme. The Swiss Garden is pleased to support this worthwhile cause, and donates a proportion of its NGS open day’s admission fees to the charity. Seasonal interest in the garden includes Snowdrops, Hellebores and a range of wonderfully scented shrubs including the lovely Winter Honeysuckle and Christmas Box. Views across the garden are opened up due to the lighter tree canopy in Winter, and the first daffodils are beginning to display.
